Erik Spoelstra watches Giannis, Bam together and calls it ‘surreal’

The Heat spent years wondering what Giannis Antetokounmpo might look like alongside Bam Adebayo. Erik Spoelstra finally got to see it.

And apparently even he needed a minute.

“It was surreal,” Spoelstra said after Miami’s first training camp practice with its new superstar, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.

Miami’s acquisition of Antetokounmpo changed just about everything for a franchise that had spent years searching for another star. Now Spoelstra gets to figure out how to deploy two of the NBA’s most versatile frontcourt players together.

Adebayo is enjoying the possibilities, too. The Heat captain said practicing against Antetokounmpo should make both of them better, particularly because neither player is going to get much of a break when the other is standing across from him.

That’s probably the idea. There will be larger questions about how Miami’s offense works, where everyone gets his shots and how Spoelstra arranges the pieces around his two stars.

Those answers will come later. For one day, the Heat simply got their first extended look at something they’d imagined for a long time.

Giannis and Bam. Same uniform. Same practice floor. No wonder Spoelstra thought it looked a little strange.
