Frank Vogel: Lakers Need Shooters Around LeBron James, Anthony Davis

Lakers coach Frank Vogel is seeing what so many of the rest of us are seeing. That would be that other than LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and sometimes Russell Westbrook, LA is struggling to find reliable scoring.Frank Vogel

That’s especially the case when it comes to scoring from the perimeter.

“We’re going to have Russ, LeBron, and AD and we need shooters and defenders around them,” Vogel told reporters of the starting lineup when everyone is healthy.

Of course, the Lakers are far from healthy at the moment. After all, James has already missed three straight games with a knee issue and is expected to miss several more. And Davis just returned last week after missing 17 straight games.

Given all that and the rocky fit of Westbrook, it’s no surprise the Lakers (24-27 entering Wednesday) are having a disappointing season. Now, they get to try to correct things without James — at least for a little bit.

“The No. 1 goal is that he’s healthy for the long haul,” Vogel said, via Daniel Starkand of Lakers Nation. “Everything else is less important after that. What we have to do is win some games without him.”

No update on Nunn

Vogel said he was unable to offer an update on guard Kendrick Nunn, who has been out with a knee injury since the start of the season. He has yet to play a game for the Lakers.

Vogel added that guard Malik Monk will continue to start when James is out, as Monk has offered some “scoring punch” to the starting lineup.
