Frank Vogel To Be Considered As Celtics Assistant?

With a suspension reportedly looming for Celtics coach Ime Udoka, there will be room on the bench for another assistant.Frank Vogel

Joe Mazzulla is expected to be elevated from assistant to interim coach, and the Celtics could consider former Lakers coach Frank Vogel as an assistant to fill Mazzulla’s chair, as relayed by Chris Mannix of SI.com.

Udoka is expected to be suspended for the entire season after violating team guidelines — or in this case, a reported inappropriate relationship with a female employee.

Vogel was fired as Lakers coach at the end of last season, two years after winning the championship in the 2020 Disney bubble. Per Mannix, “Vogel has a longstanding relationship with Brad Stevens,” the Celtics’ head of basketball operations.

Vogel has compiled a 431-389 record in 11 seasons overall with the Pacers, Magic and Lakers. He interviewed for the Hornets’ vacancy and several others over the summer.

As for the Celtics, the craziness continues, with Media Day set for Monday, and training camp to tip off a day later.

Mannix reported that Udoka has considered resigning after one season and guiding Boston to a Finals appearance.
