Free agent guard/forward Dwayne Bacon has signed with French club AS Monaco, the team announced in a press release.Dwayne Bacon

Bacon, 26, is 6-foot-6 and appeared in 72 games with the Magic last season, averaging career-highs of 10.9 points and 3.1 rebounds. He played for the Hornets from 2017-20.

He was originally selected by the Pelicans out of Florida State in the second round (No. 40 overall) in the 2017 draft.

“It [EuroLeague] is quite simply the best competition there is after the NBA,” Bacon said in a statement. “This is also why I decided to join Monaco. Each week we face off against the best teams and great players, many of whom have also been in the NBA or went to the NBA afterward.”

Bacon attended training camp with the Knicks but was cut before the start of the regular season.

“I gave it my all to make it happen, but that’s how it is, it’s basketball that wants it,” he said. “The NBA is the toughest championship in the world. Now, I’m starting with a new challenge, a new adventure in Europe and I will give everything for my new Monaco colors.

“I’m still young and I need to find that rhythm again by playing a series of matches, as can be the case here with the EuroLeague and the French League.”
