Perhaps all it took was a trade for Damian Lillard. Or maybe Giannis Antetokounmpo never intended to leave the Bucks — ever.
No matter how you spin it, Antetokounmpo made his position on the future pretty clear during media day on Monday.
“Big trade having Dame here,” he told reporters. “We added another level to our team … They’ve shown they’re committed to winning a championship. I’m happy.”
“I want to be a Milwaukee Buck for the rest of my career, as long as we are winning,” Antetokounmpo told reporters. “The commitment from the team for me, is there.”
Antetokounmpo, Lillard and the rest of the Bucks have emerged as favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference — though not favored by much. The Celtics, Heat, 76ers, Cavaliers, Knicks and maybe several others could have something to say about all that.
But Antetokounmpo is pleased, and if you’re the Bucks, that’s a good place to start.
“Having a guy like Dame on the team, it’s unbelievable,” he said. “Built from the same cloth. Wants to win, he’s extremely hungry.”
