Giannis Antetokounmpo may want to go to the Heat. He just wants to make sure it’s worth it when he gets there.
NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and shed some light on where Antetokounmpo’s head is at regarding a potential trade to Miami.

“The noise is tied to Miami, but there’s also some intel, discussion, kind of understanding, that Giannis has questions about what that Miami roster would look like on the other side of a deal,” Amick said. “You don’t want to gut your roster and go to the place you’re excited to be in and then have a hard time contending for a championship.”
That’s a legitimate concern. Miami’s reported trade package is built around Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware and first-round picks. Bam Adebayo is considered untouchable. Strip away those pieces and the Heat are leaning heavily on Adebayo and whatever veterans they can add around Antetokounmpo.
Winning a championship with that supporting cast is far from guaranteed.
Amick still believes a trade is very likely before the 2026 NBA Draft, which opens June 23. So the timeline is short and the pressure is real.
Antetokounmpo holds enormous leverage here. The Bucks need to move him. He knows where he wants to go. The question is whether Miami can convince him the roster will still be good enough to compete once the deal is done.
That’s not a small ask.
