Gregg Popovich Suffers Medical Emergency At Restaurant, Leaves On Stretcher

San Antonio Spurs legend Gregg Popovich, one of the top coaches in NBA history, left a local restaurant in an ambulance Tuesday night after officials say they received a call for an elderly person who had “fainted” while eating dinner, according to TMZ Sports

Popovich, 76, was taken in an ambulance on a stretcher.

“Our sources tell us Gregg Popovich appeared to still be dealing with the effects of the mild stroke he suffered in early November while at the establishment,” TMZ Sports wrote. “And was there for close to two hours before suffering the medical emergency. Officials say they responded to the scene after receiving a call for an elderly person who had fainted … and the patient was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injury or illness. Another source tells us Pop was alert and talking by the time he entered the back of the vehicle.”

Popovich has won five championships with the Spurs. It’s unknown if the Hall of Famer will coach again.

The Spurs went 34-48 this season. They missed the playoffs for the sixth straight season.

“Mitch Johnson and his staff have done a wonderful job and the resolve and professionalism the players have shown, sticking together during a challenging season, has been outstanding,” Popovich said in the statement in February. “I will continue to focus on my health with the hope that I can return to coaching in the future.”

The entire sports world will be praying for Popovich. He’s a living basketball legend.

Popovich guided the Spurs to titles in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014. He has coached some of the top players in NBA history such as David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard

Popovich was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last year. He’s a three-time NBA Coach of the Year (2002-03, 2011-12, 2013-14) and led Team USA to a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021.
