According to NBA insider Matt Moore of The Action Network, the Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bulls are interested in trading for Atlanta Hawks big man Clint Capela.
The Hawks are expected to trade Capela this offseason.
“Clint Capela is a popular trade target with the Grizzlies, Wizards, Pelicans and Bulls having expressed interest,” Moore wrote.
Capela will make $22.3 million next season in the final year of his contract. The Hawks have the first overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. They are expected to trade one of Trae Young or Dejounte Murray, but not both.
The 30-year-old Capela averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.5 blocks this season while shooting 57.1% from the field and 63.1% from the free-throw line. He had 38 double-doubles.
The Hawks missed the playoffs this year after losing the 9-10 play-in game to the Bulls in Chicago.
Capela has career averages of 12.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.5 blocks with the Houston Rockets and Hawks. He was the 25th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft
The Grizzlies, Wizards and Bulls missed the playoffs this year, while the Pelicans lost in the first round to the Oklahoma City Thunder in four games.
It will be fascinating to see if the Hawks find a new home for Capela this offseason. The center has been in trade rumors for the past few years, but Atlanta hasn’t been able to make a deal.
