Game 4 halftime on the Cavaliers’ road playoff game against the Heat …
1. The sweep is almost complete, as this has been a basketball slaughter. When the Cavs don’t score, it’s a stunner. Same goes for when Miami DOES score.
2. The Cavs held leads of 38-10, 41-12, 63-23. Three Cavs (Donovan Mitchell, De’Andre Hunter and Jarrett Allen) had reached double figures by the end of the first quarter. Allen also had four steals by the middle of the second, and six by halftime, setting a franchise record for the playoffs.
3. So far, the Cavs’ two best games of the playoffs have come on the road. Both are also without Darius Garland. But as Kenny Atkinson has said over and over, the sign of a mature team is taking care of business in spite of everything else.
4. I sort of thought the Cavs would have a letdown after beating the Heat by 37 in Game 3. I assumed it was just human nature. But maybe these Cavs aren’t human — or are super-human.
5. In short, Cleveland has been brilliant in every facet. That’s how you go up 72-33 at halftime. Game 1 of the next round is on the way, likely either Saturday or Sunday if the Pacers finish off the Bucks tomorrow night. More in my postgame dribbles later.
6. Ernie Johnson on TNT: “This may be the worst game I’ve ever watched.”
