The Hawks have begun formal conversations with Quin Snyder about their coaching vacancy and are aiming to move “swiftly” in making a hire, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Hawks GM Landry Fields mentioned Snyder as a candidate during a press conference to address the team’s dismissal of former coach Nate McMillan.
Snyder, 56, coached the Jazz from 2014-22, compiling a 372-264 record and becoming a player favorite along the way. He stepped down at the end of last season, citing a need for a break. Speculation, however, suggested that he would eventually return to coaching.
The Hawks and Snyder share a mutual interest, per Charania.
Prior to coaching the Jazz, Snyder was spent one season as an assistant with the Hawks (2013-14). He also spent time as an assistant with the Lakers, 76ers and Clippers, and is a former head coach in the G League and at the University of Missouri.
Sources: The Atlanta Hawks have started formal discussions with former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder and are attempting to swiftly hire Snyder as the team’s new head coach.
