Hawks Interview Danny Ferry, Calvin Booth, Monte McNair for Top Executive Vacancy

Hawks owner Tony Ressler has shown strong interest in hiring a former player agent to run Atlanta’s front office, per Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.Danny Ferry, Hawks, NBA

Ressler made a push for former Warriors GM Bob Myers — a former agent — but those efforts were unsuccessful, Stein and Fischer wrote. Myers, now a consultant for the NFL’s Washington Commanders and an ESPN analyst, is said to be highly selective about any potential return to an NBA front office.

The Hawks have interviewed several candidates for the role of president of basketball operations, including former Nuggets executive Calvin Booth, ex-Kings GM Monte McNair, and current 76ers GM Elton Brand, who has since withdrawn from consideration. Danny Ferry — a former Hawks and Cavaliers GM currently working as a consultant with the Spurs — is the latest name added to the interview list, according to the report.

Ferry previously ran Atlanta’s front office from 2012–15, stepping down after a racially insensitive comment about Luol Deng during a conference call drew widespread criticism. He later served as an advisor and interim GM with the Pelicans.

The Hawks are seeking a lead executive to oversee basketball operations. New general manager Onsi Saleh, promoted after Landry Fields’ firing, is expected to report to the hire.

Others linked to the position include Timberwolves president Tim Connelly, Magic senior advisor John Hammond, G League president Shareef Abdur-Rahim, and former Hawks wing Travis Hansen. Reports have indicated Connelly is likely to remain in Minnesota.
