It’s NBA trade season again, which means we are again likely to hear a lot about Hawks forward John Collins.
And right on cue, Collins’ name is indeed back on the rumor mill, with the Hawks having spoken to the Mavericks about a potential deal, per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Discussions have centered on Collins and the Hawks’ No. 15 pick going to the Mavs for forward Davis Bertans and the No. 10 pick, per Fischer.
At one point, it seemed as if the Collins talk had died down after Landry Fields took over as GM and Quin Snyder was hired as coach in February. But perhaps it only died down because the trade deadline had passed.
Anyway, the Mavs intend to re-sign point guard Kyrie Irving and are looking to use the No. 10 pick to upgrade the roster with some veteran help. That much is no secret.
Collins, 25, just completed the second season of a five-year, $125 million contract signed with the Hawks in 2021. He averaged 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 71 games this past season, shooting 51 percent from the field.
