No. 1 Pick Zaccharie Risacher Shines Bright In Hawks’ Preseason Debut

The Hawks tipped off their preseason with a bang, showcasing their revamped roster and fairly exciting young talent in a thrilling 131-130 win over the Pacers. While it may have only been the first preseason game, it felt like a major success for a team looking to become a pleasant NBA surprise.Zaccharie Risacher, HAwks, NBA

The biggest storylines revolved around No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher and rising star Jalen Johnson. Both made quite a first impression, and if this game is any indication, Hawks fans have plenty to be excited about.

Trae Young, of course, did his thing — scoring 17 points and dishing out six assists. But it was Johnson who truly stole the spotlight. In just 22 minutes, he racked up 19 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals, showing off his offensive skills and defensive intensity. Johnson’s chemistry with Young was evident, and the former looks poised for a breakout season.

Risacher, flying as under the radar as any No. 1 pick ever, also turned heads with a stellar debut. He finished with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, three rebounds, and two assists, while posting a team-high +15 rating.

“I was super excited for the game … that was the start of something great,” he told reporters.

Young, always the competitor, couldn’t help but wish it counted in the standings.

“I hate that this was not the first game of the season … that was a hell of a performance,” he said.

Dyson Daniels added a solid 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while Vit Krejci flashed his playmaking skills with seven points and six assists. And let’s not forget Seth Lundy, who came off the bench to hit the game-winning shot in the closing moments.

Kobe Bufkin also made his mark, running the offense effectively and contributing nine points and four assists. With questions about the backup point guard role, Bufkin’s comfort on the floor was a positive sign for the Hawks.

Overall, Atlanta showed promise, blending its young talent with veteran experience. And don’t look now, but the Hawks might be ready to make a statement this season. They face the Heat next Wednesday in another preseason game and another chance for Rissacher and the rest to show what they can do.
