Heat Work Out Cody Zeller

The Heat recently brought in free agent center Cody Zeller for a workout, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Cody Zeller

Zeller, 30, has not played since last season, when he appeared in 27 games with the Trail Blazers, averaging career-lows of 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds, before suffering a right patellar avulsion fracture.

He then became an unrestricted free agent and has remained unsigned since — though he did attend training camp with the Jazz, as we relayed here. Utah waived him on Oct. 15.

Zeller spent the first eight years of his career with the Hornets, who selected him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, back when they were still known as the Bobcats.

Meanwhile, the Heat have an open roster spot and are prioritizing frontcourt veterans, per Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. They also have been linked to free agent forward/center Serge Ibaka and Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love, who reportedly is working on a contract buyout.
