Heat power forward Bam Adebayo will undergo surgery for a torn UCL in his left thumb and will be out indefinitely, the team announced in a release.
Adebayo is expected to miss about six teams, though the Heat can’t really put a timeline on his return until after the surgery this weekend, noted Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.
According to injury analyst Jeff Stotts of In Street Clothes, no player who has undergone UCL surgery has come back sooner than five weeks.
Adebayo, 24, is averaging 18.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 18 games, and serves as the strong interior presence who fronts Miami’s physical defense.
ESPN Sources: The expected timeline on a return for Miami's Bam Adebayo with looming thumb surgery: four-to-six weeks.
