Hornets Expressing Interest In Knicks Exec Brock Aller

The Hornets have been expressing interest and have even made contact with Knicks VP of Basketball and Strategic Planning Brock Aller, per Ian Begley of SNY.tv.

Charlotte hired Jeff Peterson as the team’s new head of basketball operations in February (Peterson had been with the Nets) — and it is Peterson who is believed to be big on bringing Aller to the Hornets.

Aller spent the majority of his career working with Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, as well as in the Cavs’ basketball operations department. He is known as a salary-cap guru. He left the Cavs for the Knicks in 2020, shortly after Leon Rose became head of basketball operations.

Aller had been with the Cavs in one capacity or another since 2005. His mastery of the cap is widely respected around the league. His reputation and relationship with Rose are said to be what landed him the job.

Aller served as the Cavs director of basketball operations from 2017-20. Before that, he spent a decade as a personal assistant to Gilbert.

Begley noted that the Knicks are likely to try to retain Aller.

Along with perhaps adding to the front office, of course, the Hornets are on the lookout for a new coach.
