The Hornets are expected to strongly consider G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson with the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday’s draft, as Henderson has been “gaining momentum” as Charlotte’s pick, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Hornets have been deciding between Henderson and Alabama forward Brandon Miller, per multiple reports. Per Charania, they remain “torn” with the draft looming.
Granted, this could be a smokescreen, with the Hornets attempting to see what type of trade packages are available from teams that really want Henderson (or Miller). But the Hornets could also use some additional star power to pair with point guard LaMelo Ball.
Word is, the Hornets do not view a Henderson-Ball backcourt as problematic, despite the fact they are both fairly ball-dominant in a good way. That is if the Hornets do indeed select Henderson over Miller.
Also, one opposing executive told Hoops Wire that the Hornets dangled guard Terry Rozier at the February trade deadline and could do so again this summer. But even if Charlotte doesn’t move Rozier, it could take Henderson and give him time to develop behind the starters.
