Hypothetical trade scenario: Cavs’ Isaac Okoro to Bulls

If there’s one team that we all know is looking to shake up the roster already, it is the Chicago Bulls.Isaac Okoro

As has been reported endlessly, they are looking to move guard Zach LaVine. But LaVine doesn’t appear to be the only member of Chicago’s roster who could be on the move. Names such as wing DeMar DeRozan, guard Alex Caruso and power forward Patrick Williams have also been hitting the rumor mill.

Outstanding capologist and NBA insider Keith Smith of Spotrac wrote an in-depth piece about some hypothetical trades for the Bulls, offering every possible detail on why his proposals would make sense.

One of his scenarios involved the Cavaliers sending wing Isaac Okoro to Chicago in exchange for guard Ayo Dosunmu and guard/forward Dalen Terry.

Smith wrote that Okoro “is a guy who could still pop with increased playing time, and then the Bulls can make a decision on his free agency this summer.”

As for the Cavs, Smith wrote this:

“The Cavaliers could use another guard behind Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. Dosunmu can give them some solid backup play at either spot. Okoro had fallen out of the rotation, as Cleveland added some additional wing depth this past summer. Terry is a flyer for a Cavs team that is going to be around the luxury tax line. If he develops, they’ll have a cost-controlled player as the roster gets expensive.”

Okoro is in the final year of a deal that will pay him $8.9 million. Dosunmu has three years and $21 million, while Terry is at three years and $12 million.

For the record, Dosunmu cannot be traded until Jan 15.

As for my personal feelings, I think if the Cavs ever decide to trade Okoro, they should try to get a better deal. But in fairness to Smith, a return such as the one mentioned may be the best type of deal they could get at the moment. There’s no doubting Okoro’s defense and hustle, but you have to wonder how many minutes he’ll get when everyone is healthy and the Cavs are making a playoff push in the season’s second half.

Either way, I strongly encourage Bulls fans to check out Smith’s full piece here.

  1. We need an organization that knows how and when to use guys like Issac Okoro.

We don’t need trade away guys like Issac Okoro.

This is the repeating problem we have. Have talent. It’s not showing “fast enough” compared to how it’s being sold, blame it on the player, trade the player.

Did not our draft team and coach do our research when drafting Okoro? Do we now think we were “wrong” to draft him where we did? Has he not grown? Is he not improving? Is the plan we have for him the right one to maximize what he can do?

No accountability on anybody who is not a player.

This cycle WILL continue. Bickerstaffs aren’t going anywhere.
