Ja Morant trade market remains limited as Grizzlies weigh options

The Grizzlies may be open to moving star guard Ja Morant, but finding a suitable trade partner could prove easier said than done.

According to a recent league-wide trade roundup from Heavy Sports, Morant remains one of the most fascinating names to watch this offseason. However, league executives reportedly believe Memphis faces a challenging task if it hopes to secure significant value in return.

Morant is still just 26 years old and remains one of the NBA’s most electrifying talents when healthy and available. But injuries, suspensions and ongoing questions about reliability have complicated his standing around the league.

One Western Conference executive told Heavy that while there should be some level of interest, the market is unlikely to be robust.

“I think there’s a team or two that would take the chance, especially if you’re just looking to raise your ceiling a little bit,” the executive said.

The report indicated the Grizzlies would prefer a deal that brings back meaningful assets without requiring Memphis to attach draft picks simply to move Morant’s contract. Whether such an opportunity exists remains uncertain.

Among the teams mentioned as potential landing spots were the Suns and Bucks. The Heat could also emerge as a possibility if they fail to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo, while the Timberwolves have been floated as another team that could explore the idea.

All of that said, there appears to be little momentum toward any sort of deal.

One league source told Hoops Wire that Morant market isn’t likely to pick up until the Antetokounmpo situation is resolved in Milwaukee.
