LeBron James allegedly had one request for the NBA when it came to his Christmas Day schedule: He wanted to be home.
Former NBA guard Jeff Teague said on the Club 520 Podcast that James asked the league to schedule the 76ers’ Christmas game in Los Angeles, allowing him to spend the holiday morning with his family.
“They was like, ‘LeBron, where you want to play at?’” Teague said. “He called them and said, ‘I want to be home for the holidays.’ Bron said, ‘I want to be home opening gifts with my kids.’”
Whether that’s precisely how the conversation between James and the NBA went down, of course, only those involved would know. But the schedule certainly worked out that way.
The NBA announced Tuesday that Philadelphia will visit the Lakers at 5 p.m. ET on Christmas, setting up James’ first regular-season trip back to Los Angeles since leaving the Lakers and signing with the 76ers.
It’s also the Sixers’ only road game against the Lakers next season.
So James gets to spend Christmas in Los Angeles. The NBA gets LeBron’s return to face his former team in one of the day’s premier television windows.
And everybody involved probably considers that a pretty decent Christmas present.
