Report: Jimmy Butler Wants To Be Traded Anywhere But To Grizzlies

According to NBA reporter Marc J. Spears of ESPN, Jimmy Butler wants to be traded anywhere but to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Butler has requested a trade from the Miami Heat.

Butler has been heavily linked to the Phoenix Suns. The six-time All-Star doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can’t control his trade request.

The Heat have suspended Butler twice since his trade request.

One of the top players in the NBA, Butler is averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks this season while shooting 54.0% from the field, 36.1% from beyond the arc and 80.1% from the free-throw line.

A Marquette product, Butler is making $48.8 million this season. He has a player option worth $52.4 million for next season.

The NBA trade deadline is February 6. The Heat, according to multiple reports, are not close to trading Butler.

“The point that I made to our team is get used to it,” Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said on Thursday. “Get over it. This is the NBA life. This is the life we chose. If you think it’s going to be predictable, you’re really mistaken. … It takes a mental fortitude and commitment in terms of the task at hand. Nothing changes in terms of the task at hand. We have a game tonight, we have enough continuity, we know what our identity is at this point. You can make any excuse you want to, but we get to do what we love.”

Butler has played for the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers and Heat. He has career averages of 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.4 blocks.

Butler joined the Heat in 2019. He has guided the franchise to the NBA Finals twice.

The Bulls, Timberwolves and Sixers traded Butler. It won’t be long until the Heat do the same.

  1. Okay here it goes. The three way that should but will never happen.

Sixers need to finish out their “process” with Joel Embiid by swinging for the fences these next few years. Stop whining and finish the job. They’ll have to give up a lot to get a lot. But they can make a whole new team out of this in possibly contend. After that, can go back to tanking again.

Miami needs to stay firm on their philosophies, and it looks like they won’t have it any other way. There are players out there who fit the mold, and if their teams aren’t happy with where they are now, should strongly consider making some sacrifices.

The Suns need a whole new balance of talent. They might not get their biggest wish. But they can still make major moves to reshape the team, and will likely see an improvement towards their goals to contend.

PHILLY gets: Jimmy Butler, Bradley Beal.

MIAMI gets: Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, Caleb Martin

    PHOENIX gets: Paul George

Philly gets a whole very look new squad ready to compete Butler, Beal, Embiid. Instant contenders. They give some to get some, but the payoff could be huge. They also get rid of a guy they don’t like who makes a lot of money.

Phoenix gets a Paul George that can probably be more impactful that Beal, with new teammates and new motivations. Instant contenders.

Miami gets a future that allows them to sleep at night. They don’t have to trade away their self respect, and Miami would be a great fit for Maxey. Jared McCain can heal up on schedule, no rush, and be an asset to play or trade later. Caleb Martin fits the culture, not overpaid.

Every team can move on from their mess optimistically. These trades are the answer.
