Kawhi Leonard’s contract extension with Clippers for three years

Details have emerged on the contract extension involving star forward Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers.Kawhi Leonard drives by LeBron James

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Leonard agreed to a deal of three years and $152.4 million. That’s about $8.5 million under the maximum salary amount that Leonard could’ve received. The new deal does not include a player option, Charania added.

Leonard is due $52 million in the first year of the contract, then $50 million in each of the final two, added Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

As we relayed here, the Clippers are having ongoing discussions with fellow star forward Paul George as well.

Leonard, 32, continues to be among the stars on the other side of 30 who continue to dominate the league’s younger players. He has remained relatively healthy this season, averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists, shooting 52 percent from the field and 43 percent on 3-pointers, in 32 games (through Tuesday).

As a result, the Clippers are looking like a true contender as they play their final season at Crypto.com Arena, which they share with the dreaded Lakers.
