Kemba Walker, Pistons Finalizing Buyout Agreement

Veteran point guard Kemba Walker and the Pistons are moving toward an agreement on a contract buyout, a widely expected move that will make Walker an unrestricted free agent, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.Kemba Walker

Walker, 32, was part of a draft-night trade that sent him from the Knicks to the Pistons. It was actually a three-team deal that also involved the Hornets, the team with which Walker once starred.

Last season, he averaged 13.7 points in 37 games last season, though the Knicks shut him down at the end of the year.

“In February, the Knicks and Walker agreed that the four-time All-Star would be sidelined for the remainder of the season to allow him to work out in preparation for 2022-23,” Wojnarowski wrote. “Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau dropped Walker from the Knicks’ playing rotation in mid-November, and Walker also battled knee soreness in January.”

He is likely to draw interest from multiple contenders, or perhaps even the Hornets, as a free agent. But as Wojnaorwski noted, Walker must wait 48 hours after a buyout before clearing waivers.
