Nets star Kevin Durant didn’t mince words when asked if he thinks Steve Nash deserved another season as coach.
“Come on, man. Yeah,” Durant told reporters, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “Steve has been dealt a crazy hand the last two years, he’s been having to deal with so much stuff as a head coach for the first time, COVID, trades. I’m proud of his passion for us.”
Nash just completed his second season with the Nets, which is generally when most teams start to evaluate if a change is necessary. As we relayed earlier, it does not appear as if Nash will be the fall guy for their disappointing season.
The Nets were swept by the Celtics in the first round, after entering the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the East. They finished the regular season at 44-38.
Overall, Nash is 92-62 in his two seasons. Marc Stein of The Stein Line pointed to a source that said Nash appears to be safe for a third try.
“Stein suggests that Nash shouldn’t avoid blame for the Nets’ struggles, but says there are many larger issues in play as well,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.
