Kings Awaiting MRI Results On Domantas Sabonis

The Kings are awaiting an MRI on the left knee of standout power forward Domantas Sabonis after he left Sunday’s overtime loss to the Suns in the fourth quarter, per Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee.Domantas Sabonis

Sabonis left the game after colliding with Suns forward Mikal Bridges and was in “obvious pain,” as Anderson relayed.

Kings coach Alvin Gentry said after the game the Kings would have to take a “wait-and-see” approach on the injury.

“Obviously, he’s a key to what we’re doing, and, if nothing else, we’re trying to have growth with the chemistry and everything on this team and learning to play with each other, so obviously when he goes down like that, there’s always concern,” Gentry told reporters.

Sabonis was acquired in a trade with the Pacers ahead of the February deadline. He is averaging 18.9 points and 12.3 rebounds in 15 games with the Kings — practically the exact numbers he had been putting up with the Pacers.

“The team is six games out of a play-in spot with just nine games remaining on its schedule, so a lottery finish is a near certainty,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “The priority would be making sure Sabonis – Sacramento’s big in-season acquisition – is 100% healthy for next season.”
