Kings Coaching Interviews: Mike D’Antoni, Mike Brown, Mark Jackson, More

The Kings have begun their coaching search and Warriors assistant Mike Brown and former Hornets and Magic coach Steve Clifford are among those expected to interview, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.Mike D'Antoni

ESPN analyst and ex-Warriors coach Mark Jackson and former Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni will also interview for the position, according to Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Along with those names, the Kings have received permission to speak with Bucks assistants Darvin Ham and Charles Lee, as well as Celtics assistant Will Hardy, Wojnarowski added.

Sacramento opted not to retain interim man Alvin Gentry as coach after the season. Gentry replaced the fired Luke Walton early in the year.

Brown and Jackson are both said to be potential candidates for the Lakers vacancy as well. The Kings, Lakers and Hornets are the three teams with openings at the moment.

Jackson, of course, would be the splashiest hire for the Kings after serving the previous eight years as an in-game analyst with ESPN. Brown once coached LeBron James with the Cavaliers and Kobe Bryant with the Lakers. He currently serves as the lead assistant under Steve Kerr with Golden State.

D’Antoni coached the Lakers, Knicks, Suns, Nuggets, Suns and Rockets, spending last season as an assistant with the Nets and this one as a consultant with the Pelicans. He recently made it clear that he would like to serve as a head coach again — and runs the type of wide-open offense of which Kings owner Vivek Ranadive is said to be a fan.
