The New York Knicks are believed to be open to moving on from guard Quentin Grimes, and they may have some good news.
Per Ian Begley of SNY, the Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks are among those interested.
For the record, the NBA trade deadline is Feb. 8. Along with Grimes, the Knicks reportedly are looking to trade guard Evan Fournier. They are still looking for another piece after acquiring forward OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors last month.
“The Knicks may trade Quentin Grimes ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline, as he’ll certainly draw interest from opposing teams,” Begley wrote. “The Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets are among the teams with interest in the 23-year-old shooting guard. The New York Post reported that the Dallas Mavericks are also interested in Grimes.”
Grimes, 23, lost his starting job to Donte DiVincenzo and seems to have fallen out of favor with Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau. Grimes is making $2.4 million this season.
He is averaging 6.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists, shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 37.9 percent on 3-pointers. The former first-round pick carries NBA career averages of 8.6 points, 2.5 boards and 1.5 assists. He was the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers — who sent him to the Knicks on draft night.
New York (26-17) is coming off a win over RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and the Raptors and sits in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
