Kyle Kuzma Says He’s Done Trying To Fit In With The Wizards

Forward Kyle Kuzma says he’s done fitting in with the Washington Wizards. No, really.Kyle Kuzma, Wizards, NBA

Kuzma made the comments after scoring 30 points in the Wizards’ road loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. It was pretty much his best game of the year.

But for the Wizards (6-38), it was just another game. Translation: It was bad and it was a loss. They have the worst record now and likely will all season as they try to rebuild with a younger core.

Kuzma, though, says that’s not his goal.

“I think today I just decided to be myself and not really just try to fit into everything that we’re doing here, and just really played in the moment,” he told reporters after his 30-point night. “I think my mom helped me out with that. I saw her today.”

When asked what that meant, Kuzma said the idea is to be more aggressive.

“I mean just not trying to fit into what we’re trying to do here,” he said. “Just being more assertive, demanding the ball, not just going out there and trying to let people develop. Just playing my game.”

For the record, the NBA trade deadline is Feb. 6. By being more aggressive (i.e., taking more shots), Kuzma could be angling for a way out. The Wizards seem to like and admire him, but by all accounts, they also are quite open to moving him.

That said, the new labor rules don’t make trades so easy these days. Kuzma stands a good chance to be with the Wizards for the reason of the season.

Whether he’ll change his mind on fitting in, or falling out, could then become an issue.

  1. Gotta love this.

Wizards should be ashamed of themselves. What they’re doing to their fans. Haven’t improved in half a decade.
