Lakers’ Darvin Ham: Anthony Davis ‘Progressing Really, Really, Really Well’

The Lakers have been waiting out the latest Anthony Davis injury, and it seems more and more as if he’s nearing a return.Anthony Davis

Davis even practiced a little on Thursday, coach Darvin Ham revealed to reporters.

“He did jump in with the group today, did some non-contact stuff, pick-and-roll drills, a little offensive scripting. He’s looking good,” Ham said, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “Moving well. … Got a great sweat in [during an] individual workout … He’s progressing really, really, really well.”

Davis has missed 17 straight games with a foot injury. Earlier this week, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the Lakers are hoping to have him back before mid-February. That’s still about three weeks away.

Without question, the Lakers (20-25) sure could use Davis these days. They’ve lost four of five and if they have any hope of the playoffs, or even play-in tournament, they’ll need every upgrade they can get.

Davis suffered the injury in a Dec. 16 win over the Nuggets and was forced to exit the game. He made just 40 appearances last season and just 36 the season before that.

He is averaging 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds in 25 appearances, shooting 59 percent from the field.

“I’m just really excited to get back on the floor,” Davis said last month, via McMenamin. “(It) hasn’t been a ‘Man, it’s going to take me X amount of games to get back in rhythm,’ or, ‘Might not be the same.’ That’s not even been a thought in my mind. My thought has been, ‘Whenever that day is, it’s go time.’”
