The Lakers are doing their homework on Giannis Antetokounmpo. That part makes sense.
Multiple reports say Los Angeles plans to explore trade scenarios this summer. The idea is obvious. Pair Giannis with Luka Doncic and get right back into the title picture.

The interest isn’t new. The Lakers were among the teams that checked in at the deadline. They weren’t alone. Half the league would line up if Giannis truly becomes available.
That’s where things get complicated.
Milwaukee isn’t giving him away. The asking price is expected to be steep. Draft picks, young talent, real building blocks. The Lakers have some assets. They don’t have a surplus of them.
Austin Reaves is probably their best piece. He’s also expected to hit free agency and the organization wants to keep him. That limits flexibility.
Other contenders may simply have more to offer.
There’s another layer too. Fit off the court. Giannis was recently asked about Miami or Los Angeles and didn’t hesitate.
“Miami,” he said. “I think L.A. is superficial. I don’t like L.A.”
Could that change? Sure. Players change their minds all the time.
But the bottom line, it seems, is that the Lakers are exploring. Landing Antetokounmpo is a different story.
