All is quiet on the Los Angeles Lakers’ front when it comes to trying to trade for Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray.
While it seems to be all the buzz on social media, the Lakers and Hawks have engaged in “little-to-no dialogue” on a possible Murray trade recently, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
“Trade talks tend to be fluid this time of year and can be easily sparked up again, but one source briefed on the talks termed the idea of Murray landing with the Lakers before the deadline, as of this Sunday, as ‘unrealistic,'” Stein wrote.
The Lakers reportedly offered guard D’Angelo Russell, forward Jalen Hood-Schifino and draft picks to the Hawks for Murray, but that report was from a couple of weeks ago. Russell has been very good since.
At the time, it was said that the Hawks did not Russell and that they would want to flip him to a third team. There also are questions as to whether Murray would move the needle enough for the Lakers to surrender Russell and other assets.
“The Lakers were initially said to be willing to package Russell with a first-round pick in 2029 and a first-round pick swap in exchange for Murray — with Austin Reaves completely off limits,” Stein wrote. “That pursuit appears to have been dialed back some with Russell playing so well.”
Over the last eight games, Russell is averaging 27.5 points, and 6.4 assists, shooting a sizzling 52.3 percent from the field and 54.2 percent on 3-pointers. He’s averaging 17.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists for the season.
Murray is averaging 21.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals, shooting 46.9 percent from the floor and 38.8 percent on threes. He is represented by agent Rich Paul, whose extensive client list also includes Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
