In case you were wondering, LeBron James is officially no longer a member of the Lakers.
Neither is Carmelo Anthony. Or Dwight Howard. Or Dion Waiters.
That’s because the Lakers have officially renounced the rights to those players … and 10 others.

Also on the list: Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, Maxi Kleber, Nick Smith Jr., Jared Dudley, Avery Bradley, Jaxson Hayes, Markieff Morris, and Wayne Ellington.
This list is long. It’s also a little hilarious. Plenty of fans have probably forgotten Waiters and Markieff Morris ever played for the Lakers. Some may not even remember Anthony suited up there. Howard hasn’t appeared in an NBA game since 2022, while Waiters has been out of the league for more than six years.
James, of course, is the big story here. He not only left the Lakers at the end of the season, he wouldn’t even take a free-agent meeting, per ESPN.
At this moment, it’s still to be determined where James is going next. All we know is it won’t be the Lakers.
Other than that, this list leads us to believe one thing: J.R. Smith, perhaps, is still a member of the team.
