Lakers signing Matisse Thybulle to one-year contract

The Lakers have added another veteran wing.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Los Angeles is signing free agent forward Matisse Thybulle to a one-year, $3.3 million contract.

The move gives the Lakers another experienced perimeter defender as they continue to reshape their roster heading into next season.

As Jovan Buha of The Athletic noted, the signing leaves the Lakers with 16 players on guaranteed contracts, meaning they’ll need to waive or trade at least one player before opening night to reach the NBA’s 15-man roster limit.

Thybulle, 28, entered the league with the 76ers in 2019 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the NBA’s better defensive specialists. He’s appeared in 377 career games with Philadelphia and Portland, averaging 5.0 points and 1.1 assists in 20.6 minutes.

Injuries limited Thybulle to 45 games over the past two seasons with the Trail Blazers, but he returned to the rotation late last year after recovering from ankle, knee and thumb issues.

The Lakers have been active in upgrading their wing depth this offseason, with Thybulle joining a group that includes Austin Reaves and free-agent addition Quentin Grimes.
