Lakers Nearing Two-Way Deal With Sekou Doumbouya

The Lakers are nearing a two-way contract with forward Sekou Doumbouya, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.Sekou Doumbouya

Doumbouya, 20, is 6-foot-8 and averaged 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 56 games with the Pistons last season. He has since been traded to the Nets, and then later flipped to the Rockets. Houston waived him last week.

The Lakers could use some help in reserve after losing shooting guard Talen Horton-Tucker (thumb) and small forward Trevor Ariza (ankle) to start the season. Each of those players are expected to miss at least eight weeks.

Doumbouya was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 draft. He plays both forward positions. Given that he’s on a two-way deal, he will split time between the Lakers and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.

The possibility also exists that Doumbouya could be signed to a standard deal before ever playing a game for South Bay.

“Because Doumbouya only has two years of NBA service under his belt, he remains eligible for a two-way deal,” noted Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.
