Lakers Notes: LeBron James, Scoring Record, Anthony Davis

Star forward LeBron James is now just 63 points away from becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the top spot.LeBron James

Given that it will take James 20 seasons of rarely missing games, it’s a record that may not be broken in our lifetimes, if ever.

“I think it’s one of the greatest records in sports, in general,” James told reporters. “It’s like the home run record in baseball. It’s one of those records that you don’t ever see or think will be broken. You see guys like Hank Aaron, who had it for so long. You see guys like (Sammy Sosa) and Mark McGwire and you start climbing it and it’s like ‘Oh, this could really happen.’ It’s a fun thing as a sports person. It was fun watching those guys chasing it.”

For the record, James now has 38,325 points following Thursday’s road win over the Pacers.

  • The Lakers’ next visit the Pelicans on Saturday, and one reporter asked James if he has a 63-point game in him. “Yeah, I do,” James replied. “I mean, I don’t know if it will happen on Saturday. But, yeah.”
  • Forward/center Anthony Davis indicated he’s still getting back to game shape after a the foot injury that sidelined him for a month. “Still getting used to the game, the flow,” he said. “But it felt good. My mindset tonight was to be aggressive knowing the position that we’re in, trying to get wins.”
  • The Lakers and Jazz have talked about a trade centered on guard Russell Westbrook in recent days, per Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. We have full details on that trade chatter right here.
