The Bulls appear to be entering the final stages of their coaching search.
As highlighted by Andre Bass Jr. of Roundtable, longtime Bulls insider K.C. Johnson recently reported that Chicago’s list of candidates has been narrowed to four finalists as the organization looks to replace Billy Donovan.
According to Johnson, the remaining candidates are Trail Blazers acting coach Tiago Splitter, Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, Hawks assistant Ryan Schmidt and current Bulls assistant Wes Unseld Jr.
Johnson indicated on the “By The Horns” podcast that in-person interviews are underway, with a decision potentially coming in the near future.
Splitter drawing attention
Among the finalists, Splitter may be the name generating the most buzz.
As Bass noted, Splitter earned praise around the league after helping guide Portland’s young roster while serving in an expanded role this season. The former NBA champion has built a reputation as a strong communicator and player-development coach, making him a popular candidate in multiple coaching searches.
Familiar face remains in mix
Unseld also remains firmly in contention.
The longtime NBA coach has spent the past two seasons on Donovan’s staff and offers familiarity with both the roster and front office. He also brings previous head coaching experience from his time with the Wizards.
According to Bass, Unseld briefly stepped into the head coaching role earlier this season during Donovan’s absence.
Nori continues to receive interest
Meanwhile, Nori’s name continues to surface whenever head coaching jobs become available.
The veteran Timberwolves assistant has interviewed for multiple openings in recent years and is widely respected around the league for his ability to connect with players and help build culture.
Bass reported that Nori is viewed as a candidate who could bring a fresh voice to Chicago’s young roster.
Schmidt also under consideration
The fourth finalist is Schmidt, who currently serves as an assistant with the Hawks.
As Bass noted, Schmidt’s coaching journey has included stops in the G League as well as head coaching opportunities in both Canada and London. He also has ties to Bulls executive Bryson Graham, which could make him a familiar option for the organization.
Decision could be approaching
According to Johnson’s reporting, Chicago has evaluated a lengthy list of candidates throughout the process.
Now, with the field reportedly narrowed to four names, the Bulls appear to be moving closer to selecting the coach who will lead the franchise into its next chapter.
