Latest on Giannis Antetokounmpo, with trade reportedly close

The Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes may finally be nearing the finish line.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Celtics and Heat have emerged as the two finalists for the Bucks superstar, with a trade potentially coming before Tuesday night’s NBA Draft.

Appearing on ESPN’s Get Up, Charania said Milwaukee is engaged in serious discussions with both teams and that Antetokounmpo would be willing to sign an extension with either franchise.

At this point, the question doesn’t appear to be whether Giannis will land in Boston or Miami. It’s which offer the Bucks prefer.

And the two proposals are very different.

Boston’s package is believed to be centered on Jaylen Brown, giving Milwaukee an established All-NBA player who could help keep the Bucks competitive immediately. Brown is coming off arguably the best season of his career and remains one of the league’s premier two-way wings.

Miami’s offer, meanwhile, is built more around depth, youth and future flexibility.

The reported framework includes Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and draft assets, though additional pieces could be involved.

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Milwaukee’s decision-makers remain split on which direction to take.

You can see why. One path delivers a proven star in Brown.

The other provides multiple younger pieces and greater long-term flexibility.

Meanwhile, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that Antetokounmpo would be happy with either destination. Jackson added that Giannis’ camp has discouraged at least one Western Conference team from pursuing a deal, while stopping short of completely limiting the market.

As for the Heat, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst suggested Miami understands it doesn’t have a player comparable to Brown and has spent recent days looking for ways to strengthen its proposal.

That’s where this gets interesting.

The Celtics may have the best player in the talks. The Heat may have the deeper package. Now the Bucks have to decide which matters more.

And with the draft less than 24 hours away, they may not have much longer to make that call.
