LeBron James’ free agency has reached the voice-note stage

Apparently, text messages aren’t enough anymore.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, teams hoping to land LeBron James have been sending recruiting voice notes to him through agent Rich Paul as the NBA’s biggest free-agent decision continues to drag on.

In other words, executives are leaving LeBron basketball voicemails.

Charania reported that James remains in the process of gathering information from interested teams, with one source saying there is “no timetable” for a decision.

That’s about all anyone seems to know.

League executives recently told The Athletic they’re still in the dark about James’ plans, while reports continue to connect him to the Cavaliers, Warriors, Heat, Nuggets, 76ers and Timberwolves.

James, meanwhile, appears to be in no hurry.

He’s spent much of the offseason with family and friends, mixing in vacations and plenty of golf. He’s currently in Puerto Rico with longtime friend Draymond Green, another high-profile free agent whose future remains unresolved.

As for those voice notes? One can only imagine what’s on them.

“Hey LeBron, we’ve got cap space.”

“Hey LeBron, we’ve got a championship roster.”

“Hey LeBron… please call us back.”

The Cavs continue to be viewed by many around the league as the favorites, even if no one seems willing to say they know for sure. Bill Simmons recently declared that a return to Cleveland is a “done” deal, while team executives have admitted they’re still waiting for James to make up his mind.

So, yes, teams are apparently leaving recruiting voice notes. Whether any of them are getting through is another matter.
