LeBron James appears to be closing in on a decision. Or if he’s already decided, an announcement on his next NBA destination.
Speaking Monday on ESPN’s NBA Today, NBA insider Shams Charania said the free-agent process has reached the point where just about every contender has made its case.
“We are getting closer to a decision,” Charania said. “It’s decision time for LeBron James because all the information, for the most part, is in.”

According to Charania, general managers, team presidents and owners have all had opportunities to speak with James and his agent, Rich Paul, while players around the league have also been actively recruiting the four-time MVP.
“All the voice notes have also been listened to,” he added.
Charania reiterated that the Cavaliers, Heat, Warriors, 76ers and Timberwolves remain the primary contenders.
He also offered another important detail about James’ mindset.
“What we know definitively,” Charania said, “is that he wants to go somewhere that he can compete for a championship. Somewhere where he feels like he finds that happiness from a team environment and culture that he feels he can uplift.”
Charania added that James’ decision won’t be driven by money, giving him the flexibility to consider teams with salary-cap space, various exceptions or even minimum contracts if the basketball situation is right.
That also means there’s no rush.
James can continue weighing his options while teams make their final recruiting pitches.
But if Charania is right, the wait may not last much longer.
