Report: LeBron James not seeking farewell tour, undecided on future

We don’t know when Lakers super-duper star LeBron James will call it quits. Based on his comments earlier this season, he doesn’t know, either.

But he knows and everyone knows the time is near. That’s just the reality of being 41 years old. As for when it does end, well, it doesn’t appear as if James needs it to be a major spectacle.

Either way, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic, James appears to remain very much in the dark.

“Team and league sources granted anonymity to speak openly say James has made no decisions regarding his future,” Amick wrote. “The notion that James would want a farewell tour — long cited as evidence this season would be his last is false, those sources said, with several even hearing that from James himself.”

In other words, LeBron could make another run next year. Or maybe not. The big difference between this summer and last is unrestricted free agency. That’s what James will hit in July.

It’s led to plenty of speculation. Will James return to the Lakers? Will he bolt for the Warriors, or perhaps a third stint with the Cavaliers? Or will he just walk away altogether?

Most are hoping it’s not the latter. He clearly can still play. But for now, it seems as if no one knows for certain. Perhaps not even James himself.

Anyway, first things first, as James and the Lakers open the playoffs vs. the Rockets on Saturday (8:30 p.m., EST).
