LeBron James’ longtime friend Randy Mims follows him to 76ers

LeBron James has a familiar face joining him in Philadelphia. Again.

Randy Mims, James’ longtime friend and business associate, is now listed in the 76ers’ team directory as Executive Administrator, Player Programs & Logistics, as Sixers beat writer Adam Aaronson reported.

It’s the same position Mims held during James’ time with the Cavaliers and Lakers. So apparently, when LeBron changes teams, Mims generally changes area codes.

The two go all the way back to Akron, Ohio, before James entered the NBA. Mims has remained a prominent member of James’ inner circle throughout his career, handling everything from outside business relationships to travel and other logistics.

“Randy has been his co-pilot for 22 years,” James’ agent Rich Paul told ESPN in a 2025 profile.

There has been one notable exception to Mims following James to his NBA stops. When James left the Cavs for the Heat in 2010, Miami president Pat Riley declined to hire Mims. He nevertheless remained close to James throughout his four seasons there.

Mims later joined the Cavs when James returned to Cleveland in 2014 and eventually followed him to Los Angeles. Now it’s Philadelphia.

He’s not the only familiar face making the move. Phil Handy, who previously coached James with both the Cavs and Lakers, has also joined the Sixers’ staff.

James signed a two-year, $8 million contract with Philadelphia this summer as he takes what could be one final shot at another championship.

Different team. Different city. Some of the people around him remain very much the same.
