Luka Doncic would like to spend the rest of his career with the Lakers. After Sunday, the Jazz might prefer he spend a little less of it in Salt Lake City.
Doncic scored 52 points in a 132-123 comeback victory, helping Los Angeles improve to 3-0 and prompting coach JJ Redick to describe what happens when his star gets rolling.
“When he’s in the flow state,” Redick said, via Khobi Price of the California Post, “he gets into like showman mode, he’s on stage performing, and that’s always – it’s always really fun to watch.”
Unless you’re trying to defend it, presumably.
Doncic scored all 13 of his fourth-quarter points in the final 4:06, buried three late threes and eventually heard MVP chants in someone else’s building. Austin Reaves added 29 points as the Lakers overcame an early 18-point deficit.
Doncic also passed LeBron James for sixth-most 40-point games in Lakers history, per the California Post’s Melissa Rohlin. James spent eight seasons with the franchise. Doncic is beginning his third, counting that partial season after the Mavericks traded him.
He hopes there are plenty more.
“Hopefully, yeah,” Doncic told Rohlin when asked about finishing his career with the Lakers. “But as you know in this NBA business, you never know what’s going to happen. But I feel like I’ve found something here that’s very comfortable for me.”
Comfortable enough to wave goodbye to Jazz fans before the game was over. They’d probably seen enough, anyway.
