Luka Doncic, Walker Kessler apparently figured each other out pretty quickly

Apparently Luka Doncic and Walker Kessler didn’t need much of an introductory period. Just throw it up there.

Kessler caught multiple lob passes from Doncic during the Lakers’ first training camp practice, providing an early glimpse at a combination Los Angeles hopes will become considerably more familiar this season, according to Lakers Nation.

It doesn’t take a basketball scientist to understand the appeal. Doncic has spent his career making life considerably easier for rim-running big men. Kessler is 7-foot-1, finishes around the basket and doesn’t exactly require the ball to be delivered at chest level.

Seems workable. The Lakers acquired Kessler from Utah this offseason in part to give Doncic the type of vertical threat that can put additional pressure on a defense.

One practice isn’t exactly enough to declare the experiment a success. It is enough to see what L.A. had in mind.

Defenses already have enough problems deciding what to do when Doncic comes around a screen. Step toward him and Kessler can head toward the rim. Stay attached to Kessler and Doncic gets another opening.

The Lakers will spend training camp figuring out plenty of things. This one may not require quite as much work.
