Magic may be leaning toward firing Jamahl Mosley no matter what

The Magic are still playing. But their coach may be on the way out.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, there is a strong belief around the league that Jamahl Mosley won’t return as Orlando’s head coach next season — regardless of how the team performs in the play-in tournament.

“Orlando, with Jamahl Mosley, is almost certainly going to be making a coaching change,” Fischer said on the Bleacher Report livestream. “No matter if they make it into the playoffs… there is a healthy amount of thought around the league that Jamahl Mosley will no longer be coaching the Orlando Magic next season.”

That’s pretty definitive.

The Magic will face the 76ers on Wednesday for the No. 7 seed, still very much alive. But internally and league-wide, the focus may already be shifting to what comes next.

Orlando finished 45-37. Not bad. Not great.

After last year’s splash move for Desmond Bane, expectations were higher. Instead, the Magic landed in the play-in, unable to lock up a guaranteed playoff spot.

Mosley has been in place since 2021 and helped guide the franchise back to relevance, including two postseason appearances.

But this is the NBA. Progress only buys you so much time.

With a young core led by Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, the Magic may be looking for a different voice.

Yes, there’s still a game to play.

After that? Things could change quickly.
