It’s been a rough offseason for NBA veteran Malik Beasley, and his challenges are only continuing to mount.
The latest? The free agent NBA guard was evicted this week from his downtown Detroit apartment, according to The Detroit News. The eviction was enforced on Wednesday following a court order from Michigan’s 36th District Court.
Beasley had been living at The Stott, a historic high-rise property owned by Bedrock Detroit — the real estate arm of Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s business group. The report says Beasley was sued twice by the landlord for failing to pay a combined $21,500 in rent.
He did not respond to the second lawsuit, which led to a default judgment and the eviction.
This isn’t the only financial issue Beasley is facing. He’s also being sued by his former agency over an allegedly unpaid loan, and reports have surfaced that his wages were garnished by his dentist due to unpaid bills.
To complicate matters further, Beasley remains under active federal investigation for alleged gambling activity involving NBA games. He has not been charged with a crime or accused of any official wrongdoing, but the probe is having a significant impact on his basketball future.
Negotiations on a reported three-year, $42 million deal with the Pistons stalled once the investigation became public, leaving Beasley’s free agency status in limbo.
Beasley had a strong season on the court in 2024–25, averaging 16.3 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from beyond the arc. He also posted a video message to his critics earlier this week, seemingly in response to questions surrounding the gambling case.
For now, Beasley’s future — both on and off the court — remains uncertain.
