Mavericks Signing Kessler Edwards To Two-Way Contract

The Dallas Mavericks intend to sign small forward Kessler Edwards to a two-way contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.Kessler Edwards, Kings, Mavericks, NBA

Edwards, 23, is 6-foot-8 and appeared in 54 games with the Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets last season, averaging 1.7 points in a mere 5.1 minutes. He was originally selected by the Nets with the No. 44 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

In 138 career games with the Kings and Nets, Edwards is averaging 3.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 40.7% shooting. That includes 35.0% on 3-pointers.

He was acquired by the Kings from the Nets at the trade deadline in February. Needless to say, the majority of his run has come in the G League.

Once the signing becomes official, Edwards will join small forward Alex Fudge and point guard Brandon Williams as Mavericks with two-way deals. The NBA limit is three per team.

Dallas is coming off a run to the Finals, where it lost to the Boston Celtics. The Mavericks have added ex-Golden State Warriors star shooting guard Klay Thompson and veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie this offseason already.

Thompson has indicated he hopes a change of scenery will serve him well.

“Whether you play basketball or work in the corporate world or whatever industry, sometimes change can stir greatness and a new change of scenery can do wonders,” Thompson said. “Sometimes breakups are necessary to do what’s right. I’m not the first athlete in the NBA to go do this. I grew up in Portland, so I remember when Scottie Pippen came to the Blazers, that was one of the best days of my life.”
