While trade rumors have centered around Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson, particularly as they relate to the Knicks, it appears Dallas is determined to keep him, per Marc Berman of the New York Post.
Brunson will be a free agent in July and is a Knicks target, Berman wrote. However, he has played a major role in helping the Mavs tie the defending Western Conference champion Suns, 2-all, in their second-round playoff series.
A league source who spoke to Mavs owner Mark Cuban told Berman that Brunson becoming available this summer seems fairly unlikely. Also, ESPN recently reported that Cuban and the Mavs have no intention of engaging in sign-and-trade talks when it comes to Brunson.
“That doesn’t bode well for Leon Rose’s Knicks as they search for a premier floor general. Rose’s son, Sam, and Aaron Mintz are Jalen’s CAA agents,” Berman wrote.
The Knicks have also been linked to Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, though it doesn’t appear as if he will become available this offseason.
