Mavs’ Luka Doncic Shoots Down Idea of Shutting It Down

The Mavericks are fighting for their postseason lives, just trying to make it to the play-in tournament after reaching the Western Conference finals a year ago.Luka Doncic

But from the sounds of things, they intend to keep fighting — as opposed to shutting down star guards Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, as has been reported as a possibility.

“I’m playing tomorrow,” Doncic said of the Mavs’ matchup vs. the Kings on Wednesday, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN. “When there’s still a chance, I’m going to play.”

It is believed that Irving will be a go, too.

The Mavericks (37-42) have three games left, all at home. After the Kings, they face the Bulls and Spurs. All three are very winnable.

Right now, Dallas sits in 11th place in the Western Conference, just a half-game behind the Thunder for the final play-in spot. That could change before the Mavs even play, given that the Thunder are visiting the Warriors on Tuesday.

A loss by OKC would put Dallas right back in the play-in spot. And if the Mavs can win their last three, they could move even higher and enter the postseason with some momentum.

Doncic and everyone else associated with the team realize that, so it sounds as if that will indeed be the situation.
