The Mavericks are signing forward Marquese Chriss to a third 10-day contract via the hardship exception, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line. The team later confirmed the move.
Chriss, 24, is 6-foot-9 and has appeared in 10 games with the Mavs so far, averaging 6.1 points and 4.1 rebounds. He has filled in well so far as forward/center Kristaps Porzingis continues to remain in health and safety protocols.
Dallas is also “also exploring a potential roster” in an effort to keep Chriss around for the long haul, as relayed by RealGM.
He appeared in two games with the Warriors last season, and 59 the season before that. He has also spent time with the Cavaliers, Rockets and Suns since being drafted with the No. 8 overall pick in 2016.
He suffered a broken fibula last season, leading to his limited time with Golden State. He was later traded to the Spurs and waived, the attended training camp with the Trail Blazers before the start of this season.
Teams can sign players to more than the normal two 10-day deals given the state of regulars moving in and out of the protocols.
