Max Strus is headed to Los Angeles. But it sure sounds like a big part of him is staying in Cleveland.
Strus posted a lengthy farewell to Cavaliers fans Friday, thanking the city after three seasons with the organization.
“CLEVELAND! This one is indeed for you!” Strus wrote on Instagram. “The past 3 years have been nothing short of amazing. You guys welcomed me with open arms, and said goodbye with even more love than I could have ever imagined.”
Strus was traded to the Clippers as part of the deal that brought Peyton Watson to Cleveland.
He acknowledged that the Cavs didn’t accomplish everything they wanted during his run, but pointed to consecutive appearances in the conference semifinals and a trip to the Eastern Conference finals.
“Although it wasn’t as successful as we all wanted,” Strus wrote, “back to back conference semi appearances and a trip to the eastern conference finals is something to be proud of.”
Strus also made clear that Cleveland meant more than basketball.
He mentioned the work done through the Max Strus Family Foundation and said the city helped him “grow, learn, and understand what it means to be a part of something bigger than yourself.”
Then came the toughest part.
“Unfortunately that doesn’t make this any easier,” Strus wrote. “I’m going to miss you all. The fans, the city, coaches, staff and of course my teammates.”
He finished with one final message.
“Cleveland will always have a piece of my heart. But in the meantime, if you need me I’ll be out west!”
Strus may be a Clipper now. Pretty clear he’s leaving Cleveland with no hard feelings.
